Have you guys ever looked into mythology for greek, norse, or even india? Holy cow, that is all I have to say. I was searching wiki for some information on each of the mythologies that could help me out in deciding what the spirits would be for my game and when you read about some of the 'gods' it is a frickin soap opera.

An excellent observer wrote this little quip in the near past. It also has a fairly impressive PageRank on Google: :) (And yes, I should be working on getting our precious Ethics and Values course closed-captioned, but I just don't feel like it.)

... I would sure look before I paid them any more money. I worked on a
project where we had to dig into the database layer of Dentr!x. It's
easily the worst designed database I've ever encountered, and that's
really saying something.

Just a random example off the top of my head: The last 20 payments
for an account are all stored in a single field as just a long string
of digits (hex encoded, if memory serves). Dentr!x goes to
extraordinary lengths like this to destroy all value gained from
using a database backend in the first place. (Querying their
database structure for anything meaningful is more or less impossible.)

If you don't want to go that far, just hook up a program that let's
you watch its queries flow by. The software easily issues 20 to 50
queries for each one it should need. It's downright scary to watch
it work.

I'm 100% confident scary errors lurk in that codebase.

Giving these people money is a very brave act. Trusting their
software is much worse. ;)

So I was browsing around on the internet and happened upon this software. Its called Stellarium, which happens to be for viewing of stars and so on. You can configure your current location (Mainly so the sun is not set at Noon), and many other options. You can actually have this program advance you through time however far you want. I havent tested how far back you can go, but I am sure that it goes back a long time. I am pretty sure it isnt going to figure in BC or anything though. However, consider this: affiliates would've made 22.46 at 29.95. Now, affiliates will make 59.25... almost triple. And I'll make a cool 19.75 for not even lifting a finger.

It is too good to not at least try it. I've only had one sale this year, so I have nothing to lose.

The appraisal came back very favorably. This is fantastic news. Hell, I'm in the wrong business. Real estate is where the money's at.

However, the bank is dragging their feet on this home equity loan. Speaking of banks dragging their feet; buying a home is not for the faint of heart. It is easily one of the hardest things you'll ever do... but worth the effort.

So I turned on a movie for the kids on my computer and then I paused it so that we could eat dinner. Right after dinner Alex came to me saying that the computer was black. I went to investigate and found that on the screen it said "Missing NTLDR." What the heck did they do? I brought the drive in this morning to work and check out the damage. It turns out that the entire C drive is blank. I think he formated it on accident. Shouldnt they have some sort of thing that prevents you from formating your boot drive while using it?

I spent most of the evening reinstalling software and drivers.

Question: Does anyone have a drive imaging software with an extended demo?

Remember Gorillas and Nibbles from circa 1994? The story goes, Microsoft included QBasic in MS-DOS 5.0 and better. (Don't quote me on this because the waters are a little murky.) Anyway, DOS came with the adorable Gorillas and Nibbles games. I have fond memories of getting into severe trouble in computer science class and during my glory days at Fred Meyer for doing “less than intended for” things with the paint computer – over these little gems.

When Windows 95 was released, Gorillas and Nibbles got the axe.

Now, 12 years later, and thanks in part to acute boredom, you can re-live those glory days all over again! In my most blatant rip-off work yet, I have made this nifty package available to you at no charge.

So we received a call from a certian Dr saying that he couldnt convert his database from 11 to G 2. He said that it always failed on the Cl!nical Notes section of the conversion. After geting his Database in house we realized that they had signed a Cl!nical note with a "Dot." There happens to be a clause in the conversion that states, if the size of a signiture is to small it will be deammed invalid and deleted.. Although it doesnt delete, it just crashes. We have corrected the problem and will be overnighting the updated cd to everyone that happens to call support because this fails. If you are intested to see this for yourself. Just open a Cl!nicial note and sign it with a single dot and press ok. Try the upgrade and you will see what happens.

So, most of you know that they will be doing a Train the Trainer here in Utah this next week. Patrick was originally signed up to be the trainer, but he cannot do it. So Russ and Patrick decided that I should do it. I am thinking to myself. Its about time we get someone from support trying to make our trainers well, train something. So I am supposed to train over 100 people on Image Quality. I think it is pretty cool, although, if I dont do a good job, all I will do is confuse the crap out of hundreds of people. Which in my opinion, cannot be much worse than it is right now.

Eric is right. I'm seeing a definite lack of activity here. You know what actually inspired me to create this thing? The comment threads on Rachel and Brandon's blogs. Rachel, Brandon, Eric, Martin, all of you guys actually TALK to eachother on your blogs and I thought that was interested. Maybe we should get some of that action going here, eh?

So... he was on his way to work and he KNEW he had a warrant out for his arrest. Well, the long arm of the law caught up with him. He decided not to pay a $75 parking ticket. So right now, he's sitting in the Utah County Jail.

Fridays rock here at HI-TECH. Training for an hour on concepts we are know about. It's like going to Sunday School where we are taught the same things repeatedly. Then the dead queue makes the day bearable. Eric for sure will be at his usual TGI Friday antics and we'll have a bottomless cooler full of sugar enriched soda. Yeah, it's a good day to go to work.

So here it is boys. The High Tech Blog. Now I want to clarify before anything gets out of hand, (since things are just out of hand by nature) that this blog is for all of us in High Tech, but not so that we can just sit around and vent about Dentrix or about people at work. I figure that we're all buddies here, so we might as well have a blog for all of us. I'm adding everyone as an admin but you'll have to set up a Blogger account at least so that you can create your own posts.

Before we all get excited and get started, I want to establish a few rules:

1- Feel free to post any funny material you find, but let's keep this SFW if you please. (Sorry to step on ya Brandon, but the crude and outright abusive is less of what I'm going for here). If we could keep profanity to a minimum, I'd like to keep this thing as universal as possible since there will be people not within our little work group that read it.

2- Let's keep the company bad-mouthing to a minimum if possible. Don't post anything here that you wouldn't feel comfortable with management reading. It is a 'High Tech' blog in that it's mostly people from High Tech, but it's not intended for venting about Dentrix as a company or about any particular employees or policies.

3- Since I created the blog to begin with, I'm the only one with access to delete posts, so be careful what you post. If you do post something you'd like to have deleted or that you want to edit, email me and let me know.

Have fun with this thing, and if you have other people close to you who would like to be added as a member (i.e. spouses, significant others, cool geek people) that would enjoy being part of the action here, email me their email address and I'll get them added.
